OSAKA (TR) – Osaka Prefectural Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of a female corpse likely belonging to a high school student at a construction site in Ibaraki City, reports Nikkan Sports (April 14).

At approximately 6:20 a.m. on Thursday, a 62-year-old construction worker telephoned emergency services to report the discovery of a woman collapsed and bleeding from her mouth atop a steel plate at the site, located in the Matsushitacho area.

Officers from the Ibaraki Police Station arriving at yard confirmed her dead at the scene. He body, which was attired in a school girl uniform, had bone fractures to the lower back consistent with the result of a fall. Her clothing was undisturbed.

The evening before, a man visited a police box to report that his daughter, a high school student, had not come home after complaining previously about not feeling well. Her purse and bag were found at the site. Police are now using those items to confirm the identity of the body.

Police are viewing the case as a suicide or the result of foul play, with speculation being that the person fell from a 30-meter-tall crane located near the discovery of the body.

The site is a former factory for Matsushita Electric Industrial (now Panasonic) that produced televisions.

The site shut down operations at 5:00 p.m. the day before. Workers did not observe anything usual at that time.
