KANAGAWA (TR) – Kanagawa Prefectural Police have arrested a male employee of the city of Yokohama for allegedly exposing himself in the lobby of an apartment building, reports the Sankei Shimbun (April 4).

At approximately 6:30 a.m. on Monday, a woman alerted police after finding Masayuki Akimoto, a 54-year-old staff member in a tax division for Kanazawa Ward, fully naked in front of an elevator on the first floor of the building, located in Minami Ward.

Akimoto, who has been charged with public indecency, admits to the allegations. He told officers from the Minami Police Station that he had been out drinking. “As to why I became naked, I don’t remember,” the suspect is quoted by police.

After the woman saw Akimoto, she screamed. The suspect then fled the scene.

Police later apprehended him at a nearby parking lot. A floor mat was used to conceal his lower body.

“If this is indeed factual, it is extremely regrettable,” said Kanazawa Ward mayor Akihiro Kunihara. “After obtaining all the facts of the case, I want to respond in a strict manner.”
