KANAGAWA (TR) – Kanagawa Prefectural Police have launched an investigation after a package exploded at a residence of a man who has been a target of abuse in the past, reports the Mainichi Shimbun (April 4).

At approximately 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, more than a dozen firecrackers popped after the man, 46, opened a paper box that arrived inside an A4-sized envelope via postal mail to his home in Atsugi City.

According to officers from the Atsugi Police Station, the envelope was addressed to the man. There was no return address.

The man, who suffers from a disability to his foot, was not injured in the incident.

On several occasions last year, the man consulted with police about harassment. In the past, he has received letters in which the contents slandered people with disabilities.
