HYOGO (TR) – Hyogo Prefectural Police have arrested a woman and her daughter on charges of assault after the death of the woman’s older sister died inside the residence they share in Kobe, reports Nippon News Network (Mar. 21).

On March 18, Shizue Nakahara, 51, and Akiko, 30, are alleged to have repeatedly beat the face and body of Kazue Kawazura, 53, with a vacuum cleaner tube in the residence, located in Hyogo Ward. Two days later, Nakahara called medical personnel after Kawazura became unconscious and her body went cold.

After being transported to a nearby hospital, Kawazura was confirmed dead.

Nakahara and her daughter told police that they began assaulting Kawazura, who is mentally handicapped, in the fall of last year. “With a mental disability, she is irritable,” Akiko is quoted by police, according to TV Asashi (Mar. 21). “I hit her a few times.”

Police are now attempting to determine the cause of death.
