OITA (TR) – Oita Prefectural Police have arrested a 28-year-old university doctor for allegedly engaging in sex with two underage prostitutes, reports the Oita Godo Shimbun (Feb. 25).
On November 15 of last year, Shohei Noda, a doctor at the Oita University Faculty of Medicine, met with the girls, aged 15 and 16, at a hotel in Oita City. He paid the girls a total of 20,000 yen.
Noda, who has been charged with violating child prostitution and pornography laws, denies the charges. “I went to the hotel with the girls but I did not know they were underage,” the suspect is quoted by police.
The suspect became acquainted with the girls via a smartphone application.
Last year, a prefectural cyber patrol monitoring bulletin boards saw postings from the girls in which they sought companionship. They were subsequently taken into protective custody and the alleged crime by the suspect revealed. The girls told police that they engaged in prostitution “for pocket money.”
A representative from the Oita University Faculty of Medicine said that they have been unable to contact Noda. “We are seeking to confirm the facts in the case,” said the representative.
