Ibaraki cops: 3 found dead in suspected group suicide

IBARAKI (TR) – Ibaraki Prefectural Police are investigating what is being treated as a group suicide after the discovery of three male corpses inside a vehicle in Hitachiota City, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Feb. 21).

At approximately 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, officers from Ota Police Station found the bodies in the back seat of the vehicle, which was parked in a forested area in Nishigoutokamicho.

Police confirmed all three persons dead at the scene.

With the discovery of a stove and burned charcoal briquettes inside the vehicle, police suspect that the three persons took their lives by carbon monoxide poisoning. As well, the windows of the vehicle had been sealed with tape.

About one hour before the discovery, a person living in the area notified police about a parked vehicle with its windows taped shut.
