NAGOYA (TR) – Aichi Prefectural Police on Monday busted a casino operating illegally in Naka Ward that likely funded organized crime, reports Nagoya Broadcasting Network (Jan. 18).

At approximately 2:50 a.m., officers raided casino Shishimaru, located in the basement of a multi-tenant building in the Sakae entertainment area, and arrested the 41-year-old manager and seven other employees for operating a wagering facility for profit.

Police also seized baccarat and roulette tables, slot machines and 12 million yen in cash, according to the Chunichi Shimbun (Jan. 18). Four customers were also taken into custody on charges of illegal gambling.

Five employees and three customers admit to the allegations while the other four suspects deny the charges.

Police suspect that the operation is being used to fund organized crime.
