SHIGA (TR) – Shiga Prefectural Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of the body of a 55-year-old woman at her home in Konan City, reports the Yomiuri Shimbun (Jan. 4).

On Sunday at approximately 2:00 p.m., Hiroko Matsubara, a part-time shop employee, was found collapsed and bleeding from her head in the entrance of the residence by a relative. She was later confirmed dead.

The body of Matsubara had wounds in three locations on her head consistent with being struck. As well, both elbows and knees appeared to have been beaten.

According to the results of an autopsy, the victim died due to shock brought about by a loss of blood.

Matsubara lived by herself. At the time of the discovery of her body, the front door of the home was locked and its interior had been undisturbed.

Investigators with the Koka Police Station are treating the case as either the result of an accident or foul play.
