KANAGAWA (TR) – Kanagawa Prefectural Police have arrested a 32-year-old male construction worker for the stabbing death of his ex-wife’s boyfriend in Yokohama, reports Nippon News Network (Jan. 3).

Just before 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Chikara Takeshita allegedly used a 15-centimeter-long survival knife to stab Jun Nakanishi, 33, in the chest several times inside a parking lot for an apartment building in the Minamidai area of Seya Ward.

The victim was later confirmed dead at a nearby hospital.

Takeshita, who has been charged with murder, admits to the allegations. The suspect was initially arrested on charges of attempted murder but the allegations were changed following the death of the victim.

The suspect’s ex-wife has a child. “I became enraged after hearing that (Nakanishi) tried to inflict violence upon the child,” the suspect is quoted by officers from the Seya Police Station, according to the Mainichi Shimbun (Jan. 3).

After the incident, Takeshita telephoned police to report the crime.
