MIE (TR) – Mie Prefectural Police on Saturday arrested a 52-year-old man for the murder of his physically handicapped mother in the town of Kihocho, reports the Mainichi Shimbun (Dec. 20).

On Friday evening, Norio Uechi is alleged to covered the mouth of his mother, Yasuko, 82, with a towel and suffocated her inside a room of the residence they share.

Uechi, who has been charged with murder, admits to the allegations, telling police that he had gotten into an argument with his mother over purchase of an electric wheelchair. “I didn’t have the money to buy it and I lost my temper,” the suspect is quoted by police.

The morning after the incident, the suspect called his sister, 56, and said that their mother was sick. When the suspect’s sister arrived at the home, she discovered Yasuko’s body lying atop a futon with blood coming from her mouth. Emergency personnel later confirmed her dead at the scene.
