TOCHIGI (TR) – Tochigi Prefectural Police have arrested a 71-year-old man who has admitted to killing his bedridden wife and transporting her body to a nearby police station, reports NHK (Dec. 17).

At around midnight on December 17, Masayuki Tsunematsu allegedly strangled his 69-year-old wife, Yoko, to death with a belt inside the residence they share in the town of Nasu. Two hours later, he drove her body to the Nasushiobara Police Station.

“I killed my wife, whom I was tired of nursing,” Tsunematsu told police upon his arrival. He has been charged with murder.

Investigators found her in the back seat of the suspect’s van, lying atop a futon.

For the past 11 years, Yoko had been stricken with an illness. A 46-year-old female nurse visited the home to bathe Yoko two times each week.

“I visited the home three days before,” the woman is quoted. “At that time, nothing had changed, there was no sense that something was wrong.”
