OSAKA (TR) – Osaka Prefectural Police have launched an investigation after a vehicle plowed into the entrance of an office of an organized crime group in Naniwa Ward on Friday, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Dec. 18).

At approximately 6:15 a.m., police received a call about a vehicle that had repeatedly rammed into the front door of the Akira Rengo-kai, located in the Shimodera area.

A metal door and a shutter were destroyed in the incident. There were no injuries to the three gang members inside the building at the time.

Officers from the Naniwa Police Station are now investigating a black vehicle found abandoned about 100 meters from the office.

The Akira Rengo-kai is affiliated with the Yamaguchi-gumi. Over the summer, the Yamaguchi-gumi, which is Japan’s largest organized crime group, split and the Kobe Yamaguchi-gumi formed as a rival.

Police suspect that the case is related to an incident that took place the day before. At approximately 5:40 p.m., police received a call about a dispute that had erupted among more than 10 people outside the Akira Rengo-kai office. A few hours later, a member of the Kobe Yamaguchi-gumi riding in a vehicle in Chuo Ward was attacked and suffered injuries.
