HYOGO (TR) – Hyogo Prefectural Police have launched an investigation after the discovery of a woman’s body floating in a river in Kakogawa City, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Dec. 13).

At 10:40 a.m. on Saturday, a male middle school student, 13, telephoned police after seeing the body floating in the Kakogawa River in the Kakogawacho Tomosawa area. Officers arriving at the river bank later confirmed her dead at the scene.

The body was later identified as that of Mashiro Oyama, a 20-year-old part-time shop clerk living in Osaka’s Suita City.

Oyama’s body was clothed in a long-sleeve sweater and shorts but it did not have shoes. Wounds found on her skull indicated that she had suffered several blows to the head. Police believe she had been dead for a few days.

Police are treating the case as either an accident or the result of foul play.

On Friday afternoon, Oyama’s father filed a missing persons report with police after he had not been able to reach his daughter by telephone or email over the past two to three days, reports the Asahi Shimbun (Dec. 13).
