TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested an organized crime member for defrauding Tokyo Electric Power (TEPCO) over reparations following the nuclear accident of 2011, reports TBS News (Nov. 10).

Tsuyoshi Hirohata, a 58-year-old member of the Sumiyoshi-kai, allegedly forged a rental contract for a residence in order to claim compensation following the meltdown of the nuclear reactors at the Fukushima Daiichi plant.

TEPCO paid 600,000 yen in compensation to Hirohata over a one-year period in spite of the fact that he was living in a separate residence that was provided free of charge.

Hirohata admits to the allegations.

The matter came to light after a TEPCO employee noticed that the rental contract had been modified.
