KITAKYUSHU (TR) – Fukuoka Prefectural Police on Friday arrested a 41-year-old male for a failed robbery attempt in which he slashed two women with a knife in Kitakyushu City, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Oct. 23).

At 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Makoto Mori is alleged to have entered clothing outlet Muhoumatsu, located in Wakamatsu Ward, and threatened two female employees with a box cutter and demanded money. When they did not oblige, he cut one (aged 56) in the left cheek and the other (35) in the left ear and hand.

The suspect then fled the scene.

The following morning, police arrested Mori after he attempted to leave a restaurant in the Nakasu area of Hakata Ward without paying the bill. He then told police that he had traveled by train from Wakamatsu in hinting at involvement in the other crime.

Mori, who has been charged with robbery inflicting injury, admits to the allegations. “I wanted money,” the suspect is quoted by police.
