MIYAGI (TR) – Miyagi Prefectural Police are in search of the whereabouts of a woman who resides at a residence where two corpses, believed to be that of her mother and brother, have been discovered, reports public broadcaster NHK (Oct. 23).

On October 20, police discovered the body believed to be that of Kano Sato, 87, buried in a garden of the home, which located in the town of Shichigahama. The time of death is believed to have been within the last few months.

Two days later, the skeletal corpse of what is likely Sato’s oldest son, 57, was found under the floorboards of the same home. The skull of the body had been fractured. Police estimate that he has been dead for up to one year.

Police, who have launched a murder case, are now working to confirm the identity of both bodies.

A neighbor alerted police after not being able to contact anyone at the residence.

Sato and her son live at the residence with the second daughter of the family. Last month, a town staff member was unable to receive any information over the telephone regarding Sato’s nursing care authorization. On October 15, the employee and a welfare office visited the residence but they were both turned away by the second daughter.

On October 19, the second daughter had visited the home of the family’s eldest daughter. That was her last known point of contact.
