TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Monday announced the arrest of a top-level organized crime member for assaulting customers in a club in Shinjuku Ward in November of last year, reports TV Asahi (June 1).

Officers took Yoshihisa Hirakawa, a 46-year-old boss in the Sumiyoshi-kai, into custody for repeatedly punching the face of a male customer inside a hostess club in the Kabukicho red-light district.

The victim received a broken nose that required one month to heal.

According to police, the suspect initially challenged the victim verbally as he sat at an adjacent table. Hirakawa, who has been charged with inflicting injury, was with two acquaintances, both of whom were also arrested.

“We drink as a trio frequently, and it is often the case that this kind of thing happens,” the crime member is quoted by police, according to TV Asahi (June 1). “But I don’t recall details (of the incidents).”
