TOKYO (TR) – The Tokyo District Court on Monday handed down an 18-month prison sentence to adult video (AV) actress Minako Komukai for the possession and use of stimulant drugs, reports TBS News (April 27).
Presiding judge Takumi Suzuki said that Komukai has a strong drug dependency. “In spite of being given an opportunity to recover within society, you have once again returned to drugs,” the judge said, “and the responsibility for that is too great to overlook.”
Prosecutors in the case had sought a two-year sentence for the 29-year-old actress.
On February 6, officers from a government narcotics drugs control division arrested Komukai after finding 0.1 grams of stimulant drugs in her apartment in Tokyo’s Shibuya Ward.
The actress has been arrested three times on drug charges over the past six years. In 2009, the same court handed down a guilty ruling and a prison sentence of 18 months, suspended for three years. After her arrest two years later, she was not prosecuted due to a lack of evidence.
