TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police arrested ex-gangster Tamotsu Kawamura, 49, for injuring four people with a kitchen knife in Koto Ward on Tuesday morning, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Mar. 19).

Witnesses said Kawamura, who was taken into custody for attempted murder, began his rampage by wielding knives with both hands at around 8 a.m. at a traffic light outside Tokyo Metro Toyocho Station. Police confiscated two knives.

The victims, all males, were transferred to a hospital and are reportedly in stable condition.

Police quoted Kawamura as saying that “voices from beyond” told him to stab people at random.

The suspect, who lives near the station, was also arrested in 2005 for stabbing a man inside a pachinko parlor.
