Tokyo cops: Man assaults bank employee, steals empty bag

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police are searching for a man who assaulted a male bank employee and stole an empty bag in Taito Ward on Monday, reports TV Asahi (Apr. 24).

At around 2:00 p.m., an unknown assailant came up from behind the bank employee on a road near Matsuzakaya department store in the Ueno district and struck him with his knee. The perpetrator then jumped on top of the employee, beat him with a metal rod and stole the bag.

The perpetrator fled the scene with the bag, which contained only an account register and no cash.

Standing up to 180 centimeters tall, the suspect was wearing a black knit hat and white jacket. He was last seen entering Naka-Okachimachi Station.

The bank employee had just finished meeting with a customer and was on his way back to his office when he was attacked.

Police are seeking the the whereabouts of the perpetrator on suspicion of robbery.
