On early Saturday morning, Tokyo Metropolitan Police arrested Ye Yu Chun, 21, an art student at a Japanese university, for allegedly using a spray can to draw graffiti on the inside of a tunnel near JR Shibuya Station at around 1 a.m., TBS News reported (Apr. 15).
The suspect used yellow and silver spray to write “SCU” and other lettering on the wall over a space about 70 centimeters tall and two meters wide, police said, adding the suspect was found carrying 11 cans of spray paint in his bag.
Ye, who has been charged with property damage, told police that he has been interested in graffiti since about a year ago. He said the letters he had drawn have no meaning. “I drew an image I liked and found online, the suspect was quoted.
Police have been on heightened alert in the wake of increased reports of graffiti around Shibuya Station since last summer.
