IBARAKI (TR) – Ibaraki Prefectural Police confirmed on Monday that a body and skull found in a mountainous area of Bando City last year is that of a male Chinese national who went missing four years ago, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Apr. 3).

The Sakai Police Station revealed that a human skull and bones found in a grove of trees in September are that of the Chinese national, 29, who arrived in Japan in August of 2011 as a technical trainee. He went missing in March of 2013.

The cause of death is not known.

Police were alerted to the location after a man out picking chestnuts discovered the skull. A search in the nearby area revealed the other bones, which were buried at a depth of 10 centimeters.

Police are treating the case as abandoning a corpse.
