KAGOSHIMA (TR) – Kagoshima Prefectural Police have arrested a 56-year-old man in the killing of his brother-in-law at the residence of the victim in Amami City, reports Nippon News Network (Mar. 20).

At around 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Suekazu Shiota, a farmer, is alleged to have repeatedly beat the head of Takeyoshi Kijima, 69, with a metal pipe at the residence, located in the town of Kasari.

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead about two and a half hours later.

Shiota, who has been charged with attempted murder, admits to the allegations. He was arrested on Sunday. “My intention was to kill him by beating him in the head,” the suspect is quoted by the Amami Police Station.

Police suspect that the victim and suspect engaged in a dispute prior to the incident. They are expected to apply murder charges to the suspect as the investigation proceeds.
