FUKUOKA (TR) – Fukuoka Prefectural Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of a burned male corpse under playground equipment at a park in Chuo Ward, reports the Asahi Shimbun (Mar. 14).

At around 1:10 a.m., a woman arrived at a police box to report that “something is on fire” in the children’s play area at Ohori Park. Officers arriving at the scene found the burned body of a man lying face-down beneath a dome-shaped piece of play equipment.

According to police, his body was covered in an oily substance. He was later identified as a 38-year-old man from Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City, according to the Nishi Nippon Shimbun (Mar. 14).

Police, who are treating the case as a suicide or the result of foul play, will use the results of an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
