SAITAMA (TR) – A 21-year-old man was electrocuted after he sneaked onto train tracks in a possible suicide at a station in the town of Ina, police said on Sunday.

The man was killed after he touched a 600-volt line near the tracks of Hanuki Station of the Saitama New Urban Transit New Shuttle at around 5 p.m. on Saturday, reports TV Asahi (Mar. 12).

Surveillance camera footage showed the man sneaking onto the tracks from a gap in a fence.

The man’s body was found by another passenger who alerted station personnel. Police suspect that the man crossed to the tracks in an attempt to take his own life.

According to the Saitama Shimbun (Mar. 12), service on 10 trains was suspended in both directions, inconveniencing about 400 passengers.
