Chiba cops: Man crawls under train in suicide bid

CHIBA (TR) – Chiba Prefectural Police have arrested a 36-year-old man for crawling under a train in Ichikawa City in an apparent apparent attempt to kill himself, reports TV Asahi (Dec. 16).

At around 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, Ryota Hata, a resident of Funabashi City, allegedly jumped on the tracks of the the Keiyo Line at JR Ichikawa-Shiohama Station and crawled under a non-moving train.

Hata was later forcibly pulled out from under the carriage by seven police officers.

Hata, who has been charged with obstruction of business, admits to the allegations. “I wanted to commit suicide,” the suspect is quoted by police.

According to JR East, services for 40 trains were delayed for 24 minutes as a result of the incident.
