TOCHIGI (TR) – Tochigi Prefectural Police have revealed that a 27-year-old man suspected in the stabbing death of his girlfriend in Utsunomiya City acted out of jealousy, reports Nippon News Network (Dec. 15).

During questioning, Ryu Sugeno, an employee in the automobile industry, said that he stabbed Sakiko Nemoto, a 28-year-old nurse, to death out of suspicion that she was dating another man.

“With her seeing another man, I wanted to kill her,” the suspect was quoted by police.

On December 10, Sugeno allegedly used a kitchen knife to stab Nemoto in her residence.

The couple had been together the day before. The day of the alleged murder was the victim’s birthday.

The results of an autopsy revealed that Nemoto had been stabbed in about 10 locations on her body, according to Fuji News Network (Dec. 15).

When family members could not contact Nemoto after December 9, they consulted with police. Three days later, officers entered the residence and found her body lying face-up on a bloodstained bed. A knife was also discovered at the scene.

Sugeno was later apprehended after he was found inside Nemoto’s vehicle in Motomiya City, Fukushima Prefecture.
