HOKKAIDO (TR) – Hokkaido Prefectural Police have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of the body of an elderly man in his residence in Sapporo, reports Nippon News Network (Dec. 12).

At around 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, the body of Yukio Yoshimoto, 65, was found lying face-up in the living room of his residence, located in Shiroishi Ward, by two of his sons.

Police arriving at the residence found the body in a partially mummified state with several stab wounds. He is believed to have died up to two months ago, according to Fuji News Network (Dec. 12).

A possible murder weapon was not found inside the premises, whose front door was locked at the time of the discovery.

Prior to the discovery, the sons contacted the management company for the apartment after being unable to reach their father. The sons and a representative of the company then entered the residence.
