TOKYO (TR) – Following a rash of thefts in the Ueno entertainment area of Taito Ward, police have arrested a trio of women, including a Chinese hostess, for allegedly stealing a bag containing cash from a man three months ago, reports Nippon News Network (Dec. 7).

In September, Chen Feng, 32, and two other women called out to the man, a 46-year-old restaurant employee, in the street. “Why don’t we go for a drink?” one of them suggested as they all surrounded him, clinging to his body.

During the exchange, one of the women stole a pouch containing 2.58 million yen in cash from a bag the man was carrying.

According to NHK (Dec. 7), all three suspects deny the charges, claiming they do not recall the incident.

Prior to the incident, the victim had been drinking at nearby Chinese hostess club. Police suspect that personnel from the club had tipped off the suspects about the money in the pouch.

Police are further investigating the suspects over similar thefts that have taken place in the area.
