Iwate cops: Stabbing incident at hospital leaves nurse seriously injured

IWATE (TR) – Iwate Prefectural Police have arrested a 49-year-old man in a stabbing incident at a hospital in Ofunato City that left one female nurse seriously injured, reports the Mainichi Shimbun (Dec. 6).

At around 8:20 a.m. on Tuesday, Yasuhiro Murakami allegedly used a knife to stab the nurse, 60, in the back on the second floor of the Iwate Prefectural Ofunato Hospital.

The nurse is now receiving treatment in an intensive care unit. According to the hospital, she is conscious.

After the incident, staff members apprehended Murakami, who was turned over to the Ofunato Police Station. The suspect has been charged with attempted murder. He has admitted to the allegations.

The suspect and victim are not acquaintances, according to the Yomiuri Shimbun (Dec. 6). Police are now seeking to determine a motive for the crime.
