TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have formally arrested a 58-year-old man who injured himself while attempting to evade capture after he allegedly stole multiple pairs of women’s underwear from a residence, reports TV Asahi (Dec. 7).

At around 5:00 a.m. on September 25, Masatoshi Maeda wound up on the tracks of JR Yamanote Line tracks between Ikebukuro Station and Otsuka Station in Toshima Ward after he was pursued by police over the alleged theft of four pairs of women’s underwear hanging out to dry at a residence.

During the escape, Maeda fell as he tried to hop a fence and ended up on the railway tracks, causing a service delay of 30 minutes. The suspect suffered broken bones in his right foot and lower back.

Officers from the Sugamo Police Station arrested Maeda this week after he was released from a hospital.

During a search of the suspect’s residence, police found 146 pairs of women’s underwear.
