AICHI (TR) – A male teenager suspected of stalking killed himself by jumping from the sixth floor of an apartment while an officer was questioning him, police said on Sunday.

The 19-year-old jumped from the corridor of the apartment in Toyokawa City during questioning at around 7:30 p.m. after confessing he was stalking his former girlfriend, TV Asahi reports (Dec. 4).

The suspect died about an hour later due to a strong blow to his head.

The officer was at the apartment to investigate a report by a woman who said she was being stalked when he encountered the suspect on the first floor and called out to him, police said.

The suspect subsequently climbed the stairs to the sixth floor, where the officer was questioning him in the hallway, the Sankei Shimbun reports.

The officer told him, “Let’s go down to the station, shall we?” when he suddenly jumped, police said.
