Tokyo cops nab university student suspected in rapes of several women

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a 22-year-old university student suspected in a series of rapes of women in Adachi Ward, reports Nippon News Network (Nov. 30).

In the early morning hours of August 25 of last year, Yuta Kobayashi, a third-year student at a private university, allegedly entered the second-floor residence of a woman, aged in her 20s, through the balcony and held a knife to hear face. “Keep quiet or I’ll kill you,” he threatened her. He then is alleged to have sexually assaulted the woman and robbed her of 14,000 yen in cash.

The woman was not injured in the incident.

Kobayashi, who has been charged with rape and robbery, admits to the allegations. “I have done the same thing several times over the past few years in Adachi and nearby,” the suspect is quoted by police.

Police suspect that Kobayashi gained access to the residence after climbing up to the balcony and entering through an unlocked window. According to TV Asahi (Dec. 1), police found a waist pouch, flashlight and gloves that are believed to have been used in the crime inside the residence of the suspect.

Police are now investigating the suspect in connection with other similar crimes.
