Niigata cops: Elderly driver hits, kills 86-year-old at hospital

NIIGATA (TR) – An elderly driver struck and killed an 86-year-old woman who was trying to enter a hospital, police said on Wednesday.

Mitsuko Takeuchi, 86, died about 1.5 hours after she was struck by the driver at around 9 a.m. near the entrance of Nagaoka Chuo General Hospital in Nagaoka City, NHK reports (Nov. 30).

The driver, a 70-year-old male, was quoted as telling police he “didn’t notice the woman” when he struck her immediately after he dropped a family member at the hospital.

Takeuchi, who died after suffering a severe blow to her chest, was trying to enter the hospital for a check-up, police said.
