GIFU (TR) – Firefighters pulled 12 passengers out of a chartered bus tilting over an embankment near a river in Mizuho City, prefectural police said on Monday.

At around 6:00 p.m., the bus became stopped at a precarious tilt after it drifted off the road and onto the embankment at the Nagara River. Firefighters later pulled the passengers uninjured out of a window of the bus, TV Asahi reports (Nov. 28).

“It was hard to see the surroundings due to rain, and (the bus) veered too close to the left,” the driver was quoted, according to the Yomiuri Shimbun.

The passengers were all friends who rented the bus and were on their way home from Nara Prefecture to Gifu Prefecture, authorities said.
