IWATE (TR) – Iwate Prefectural Police are investigating what is believed to have been double suicide attempt at a dam in Morioka City that left one high school girl dead and another seriously injured, reports Nippon News Network (Nov. 23).

At just before 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday, emergency services received a tip from a man about “women who jumped from the Shijushida Dam.”

Fire fighters arriving at the scene found the bodies of the two girls, aged 15 and 16, both attired in their school uniforms, collapsed at the bottom of a drainage slope. One girl was confirmed dead upon arrival at a nearby hospital. The other is receiving treatment for serious injuries.

Police suspect the girls leaped from the road that runs across the top of the dam, a height of around 20 meters from where they were found. The man who placed the emergency call is an acquaintance of the victims.
