Hokkaido cops: Man killed great-grandmother in robbery

HOKKAIDO (TR) – Hokkaido Prefectural Police have arrested a 23-year-old man in the robbery and murder of his great-grandmother last year in Monbetsu City, reports Nippon News Network (Nov. 20).

Sometime between October 16 and 18, Koyo Igarashi, a resident of Sapporo, allegedly entered the residence of Toshie Morita, 93, and used a knife to stab her in the neck. He also stole an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police apprehended Igarashi in Sapporo’s Chuo Ward on Saturday. He admits to the allegations.

An acquaintance of Morita found her body on October 18. The cause of death was determined to have been shock due to loss of blood, according to the Hokkaido Shimbun (Nov. 20).
