TOKYO (TR) – Four Vietnamese nationals allegedly stole powdered milk valued at around 100 million yen using other people’s credit cards to sell in Vietnam, police said.
Tokyo Metropolitan Police arrested Nguyen Ngoc Sang, 24, and three associates for allegedly ordering 84 cans of powdered milk worth around 170,000 yen from retail sites using other people’s credit cards and shipping them to various locations, including Matsudo City, Chiba Prefecture, over the past year, Nippon News Network reports (Nov. 19).
Police believe the suspects have pulled the same crime on around 13,000 occasions over the past few years with the total value of stolen powdered milk reaching 100 million yen. The milk was shipped to Vietnam for resale, police said.
Sang was quoted by police as saying powdered milk made in Japan “is good quality so they sell well because there’s lots of fake powdered milk going around in Vietnam.”
