TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a female employee at an intensive-care nursing home in Edogawa Ward for allegedly stealing more than 20 million yen from an elderly female patient after obtaining her ATM card, reports TBS News (Nov. 17).

In February, Miyoko Ouchi, a 54-year-old resident of Katsushika Ward, is alleged to have used a cash card obtained from the woman, aged in her 80s, to withdraw 300,000 yen in cash from an ATM machine.

Ouchi, who has been charged with theft, admits to the allegations. “I did it for living expenses and to pay back debts,” the suspect is quoted by police.

All told, Ouchi used the woman’s ATM on about 50 occasions to withdraw a total of 23 million yen.

Police suspect that Ouchi obtained the personal identification number from the victim before the first withdrawal.
