KANAGAWA (TR) – A male Tokyo university student was arrested on attempted murder charges for allegedly shoving his girlfriend into an oncoming train over an argument, police said on Monday.

Yuki Ozawa, 22, a third-year student of Keio University in Tokyo, is charged with trying to murder his 21-year-old girlfriend by shoving her off a train platform into an oncoming train at Hiyoshi Station in Yokohama at around 9 p.m. on Sunday, TBS News reports (November 7).

Ozawa is denying the charges, quoted by police as saying “I shoved her off because we fought, but I wasn’t trying to kill her.”

Police said a station worker pressed an emergency button and the oncoming train stopped just 400 meters from the woman, who lightly injured her knees.
