OSAKA (TR) – A tour bus driver was filmed playing smartphone game Pokemon Go behind the wheel, prompting the bus operator to ban smartphones from the driver’s seat, NHK reported on Friday (November 4).

Riyoubi Holdings, a transport services provider, said it banned smartphones from the driver’s seat of its buses and trams after discovering an online video on Monday appearing to show one of its tour bus drivers playing Pokemon Go while operating the wheel.

One of its drivers, a 41-year-old male, admitted he was playing Pokemon Go on his way back to the bus depot after dropping off passengers at Itami Airport in Osaka early last month and said he “did something very regrettable.”

Riyoubi is mulling punitive measures for the driver and also probing the possibility that an individual associated with the company filmed the video, which was widely circulated online.

“There’s no way to apologize for this,” Riyoubi said in a statement. “We hope to take measures and prevent this from happening in the future.”
