YAMAGUCHI (TR) – Kanagawa Prefectural Police have used the results of a DNA analysis to arrest a man from Ube City, Yamaguchi Prefecture in the stabbing of a woman in Yokohama seven years ago, reports the Mainichi Shimbun (Oct. 4).

Officers from the Tobe Police Station apprehended Kenji Ito, a 45-year-old employee at a karaoke parlor, in the stabbing of the woman, then a 31-year-old office worker, in the Porta underground shopping center at JR Yokohama Station at around 12:20 p.m. on March 1.

Just before the incident, the suspect asked the woman about the location of a hotel. He then used a fruit knife to stab her in the left side of her lower back. He dropped the knife at the scene before fleeing.

Ito, who has been charged with inflicting injury, admits to the allegations. “I did it because I was irritated at that time,” the suspect is quoted by NHK (Nov. 4).

In February, Ito was arrested in a separate case. The results of an analysis of Ito’s DNA proved to be a match for evidence left behind in the stabbing incident. A fingerprint belonging to Ito was also found on the knife.
