MIYAZAKI (TR) – Police arrested a taxi driver on Monday for allegedly abandoning on the roadside a drunk passenger who later died in a traffic incident.

Taxi driver Katsumasa Kawabata, 67, was held on suspicion of aggravated abandonment resulting in death for leaving intoxicated passenger Daisuke Komoguchi, 38, on the roadside in Miyakonojo City on August 27 after he fell asleep in the taxi. Komoguchi later died after getting run over by a car, Nippon News Network reports (October 24).

Kawabata was arrested after he told police Komoguchi could have died.
