OKINAWA (TR) – Police are investigating why a bus with no passengers suddenly burst into flames here on Saturday.

Flames erupted from the engine of the bus while it was traveling down an expressway in Okinawa Prefecture in the village of Nakagusuku at around 2 p.m., Nippon News Network reports (October 22).

Firefighters extinguished the flames in about 2.5 hours after the bus driver pulled over, though the interior of the bus was completely burned out, authorities said.

The driver was the only person aboard the bus, police said, adding that they are investigating the cause of the sudden fire.
