WAKAYAMA (TR) – Wakayama Prefectural Police arrested a woman for hitting a child with her car and then fleeing the scene because she “got spooked,” TV Asahi reported on Thursday (October 20).

Aya Takeuchi, 32, was held for hitting and injuring a male fifth-grade elementary student with her car on a road at around 6 p.m. in the town of Aridagawa, Wakayama Prefecture.

Takeuchi told police she “got spooked and ran after causing an accident.”

The boy took a severe blow to the head and remains unconscious and in critical condition, police said.

Police were searching for the suspect when they spotted a car with a broken headlight in a parking lot in the city.
