OSAKA (TR) – Osaka Prefectural Police have arrested a 24-year-old man after a stabbing incident at a residence in Kadoma City left one person dead and three others injured, reports TBS News (Oct. 19).

At approximately 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday, police received a distress call about “an unknown intruder who stabbed members of my family.” Officers arriving at the scene found Yukinobu Kawakami, 43, on the second floor of the residence with stab wounds to his chest and abdomen. He was later confirmed dead.

Receiving minor injuries in the attack were his son, 15, and two daughters, aged 17 and 19.

Police subsequently arrested Yuma Kobayashi, a 24-year-old part-time employee at a high school, at the crime scene on charges of attempted murder. “I don’t recall the incident,” the suspect was quoted by police.

Police found three knives at the scene of the crime. A window at the entrance of the residence was found to have been smashed. Police believe the suspect gained access to the residence through the window and began stabbing the members of the family with the knives in succession.

With the suspect having no apparent relationship to the victims, police are now seeking a motive for the crime.
