HYOGO (TR) – Hyogo Prefectural Police have received a tip regarding the possible involvement of a male Chinese national in the dismemberment of a corpse discovered last week in a riverbed in Itami City, reports the Mainichi Broadcasting System (Oct. 19).

Investigative sources revealed on Tuesday that the man, aged in his 20s, told a person with whom he shared an accommodation in Osaka, “I was involved in a killing.” Police are now working to confirm the veracity of the statement.

On October 10, police working off a tip found two arms and two legs in some bushes in the riverbed of the Ina River beneath a bridge. On the following day, a head inside a plastic bag and a torso were also found. The torso had several stab wounds.

Police have yet to identify the body. According to the results of an autopsy, the body belongs to a male, aged between his 20s and 50s. With short black hair, he stood at between 165 centimeters and 170 centimeters in height.

Sometime this month, the Chinese national returned to China. Upon his arrival, he turned himself over to police. Police in Japan are continuing the investigation with an eye on submitting a request for his extradition on suspicion of murder.
