TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have re-arrested three surfers for allegedly cultivating marijuana with the intent to sell, reports TV Asahi (Oct. 15).
On September 26 and 26, police seized 800 grams of dried marijuana and 15 hemp plants under cultivation from residences in Tokyo’s Meguro Ward and the town of Ichinomiya, Chiba Prefecture.
Police have charged Shinya Hoshino, 37, who does not have an occupation, and two male employees at a fuzoku (adult entertainment) parlor in Fukuoka City with cultivating marijuana with the intent to sell under the Cannabis Control Law, according to the Sankei Shimbun (Sept. 29).
According to police, the suspects grew the marijuana to sell to among a community of surfers to which they belong.
Hoshino admits to cultivating the marijuana but not selling it. The other two suspects claim to have no knowledge of the matter.
Police had initially arrested the suspects on charges of possession of 45.5 grams of marijuana.
