AICHI (TR) – Aichi Prefectural Police have arrested a 57-year-old man in the murder and robbery of a woman in Ichinomiya City two months ago, reports Nippon News Network (Sept. 1).

Sometime around August 26, Makoto Akutagawa, a resident of Kitanagoya City, is alleged to have strangled Yoko Watanabe, a 62-year-old part-time worker, to death at her residence, located in the Okucho area. He also allegedly stole a bag containing cash and a change purse.

The body of Watanabe was found lying face-up in her living room by a male acquaintance on August 30. Watanabe’s neck had markings consistent with strangulation.

Akutagawa was apprehended by police in a parking lot in Nagoya’s Nishi Ward on the morning of October 14. The suspect admits to the allegations.

The suspect had been introduced to Watanabe via an acquaintance. Police are now attempting to determine a motive for the crime.
