IBARAKI (TR) – Police are stepping up security around at a nursing home in Mito City after written threats were scattered at its entrance claiming an incident will occur that will “eclipse the Sagamihara incident,” the Sankei Shimbun reported on Thursday (October 13).

At around 4:30 a.m. on Thursday, a male worker at Nursing Home Katakuri, an assisted living facility for the elderly, alerted officers from the Mito Police Station after finding papers containing threats scattered in front of the building.

Dated October 13, the papers read, “Something that will eclipse the Sagamihara incident will be executed here. Please protect the users of the facility with workers. This isn’t a joke.”

In July, police arrested a former male employee at the Tsukui Yamayuri En facility for the disabled in Sagamihara City, Kanagawa Prefecture following a stabbing attack that left 19 persons dead and more than 20 others injured.

Katakuri, located in the Kawawadacho area, consists of two long-term care facilities on its premises, with some 110 residents across its three buildings.

A male worker at Katakuri said he was “shocked, this is the first time [anything like this has happened].”

“We hope to boost our security and be prepared,” the male worker said.

Police said officers are stepping up security around the facility with 24-hour patrols.
